Current services of BCHWSD

The focus of BCHWSD is the coastal belt in the Southwestern Region of Bangladesh. It is run by eminent scholars, intellectuals, and social activists of Bangladesh. BCHWSD has already undertaken a number of works in Khulna Region (e.g. road side plantation, social forestry, cage aquaculture, education for the elderly, computer education for the poor children, awareness campaign for AIDS and Arsenic contamination of drinking water). Current service area of BCHWSD are:

 

· Rural development and poverty alleviation

· Fisheries resources development and support for fishermen community

· Disaster mitigation and relief work

· Education, healthcare and awareness building

· Energy, information technology and communication

· Children’s education and support

· Support for the disabled, elderly and sick

Rural development and poverty alleviation

·         Agricultural development

·         Poultry, animal husbandry, fishery and social forestry

·         Rural housing, sanitation, water and power supply

·         Promotion of economic and commercial activities in rural areas

·         Micro-credit

 

Fisheries resources development and support for fishermen communities

·         Support for subsistence fishermen communities

·         Study of fishing gear, boats and nets

·         Fish handling, transportation and marketing

·         Post harvest fisheries activities and quality control

·         Hatching and rearing of fingerling

·         Scientific methods of fish production and processing

 

Disaster mitigation and relief work

·         Awareness development in disaster prone areas

·         Developing disaster warning system

·         Providing assistance and relief during a disaster

·         Post disaster relief and rehabilitation

·         Emergency planning and response

·         Disaster loss assessment and remedial measures

 

Education, healthcare and awareness building

·         Formal and non-formal education

·         Education for the elderly, underprivileged, mentally and physically retarded

·         Awareness building for sanitation, nutrition, and preventive health care

·         Awareness building through drama, dance and music

·         Health care facilities (preventive and curative) for the poor, particularly for mother, children , disabled, blind and the elderly

·         Treatment facilities for the drug-addicts

·         Medical care facilities to treat venereal diseases (Gonorrhea, syphilis, Aids etc.)

·         Education for hard to reach children

·         Prevention of child abuse

·         Preventing child trafficking

Support for the disabled, elderly and sick

·    Assisting the physically and mentally handicapped

·    Running old home for the elderly
